Ban On The Deployment of OFWs To Kuwait Takes Effect

Following the rising number of abused OFWs in Kuwait, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has made a move towards the implementation of deployment ban of OFWs to the country.

Temporary ban on OFW deployment in Kuwait

Department of Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III instructed the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration to suspend the processing of overseas employment certificates to all Filipinos bound to work in Kuwait. The takes effect immediately.

President Rodrigo Duterte previously said that he is planning to engage talks to Kuwaiti officials following the number of deaths of OFWs in the Kuwait and the neighboring Gulf state.
“We talk to them, state the truth and just tell them that it’s not acceptable anymore,” says President Duterte.

There are about 600,000 domestic helpers in Kuwait and most of them are Asians. It can be recalled that OFW Jakatia Pawa was executed last January 2017 after allegedly killing the daughter of her employer.
