An ex OFW was nabbed in India for allegedly smuggling illegal drugs in the country as she is connected to a Brazilian drug cartel.
The suspect was identified as Jonna de Torres. According to reports, she was arrested by the Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) at Nedumbassery airport at Kochi carrying a total of 4.7 kilograms of cocaine from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Before passing through the immigration, Torres was seen by authorities waiting for someone in a very suspicious manner, promoting the authorities to check her belongings.
During the investigation, it was found out that Torres previously worked in Hong Kong as domestic helper. However, she started visiting Brazil in 2015 for 5 days and went to India for the first time during the day she was arrested.
Admittedly, she said she already had multiple drug smuggling activities for the past years, as she was hired by a Brazilian drug cartel to carry drugs for a salary of $2,000 to $4000. This time, she was paid $4000 to smuggle illegal drugs to India.
Torres failed to name any persons involved but according to her, a Brazilian in Sao Paulo gave her a hand bag and a trolley bag that contains the cocaine.
Additionally, her hotel accommodation at a hotel in Ernakulam North was arranged by a person in Sao Paulo and she was instructed to wait in the room.
The Filipina’s phone also contains several calls from a mobile number in Brazil.
