Just recently, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) started the issuance of the sought-after OFW ID card, also known as iDOLE. This ID card offers dozens of advantages starting including easy transaction throughout government as well as private agencies when it comes to the employment proceedings of OFWs.
However, as the card gets into the hands of OFWs, many raised questions as to why the face of President Rodrigo Duterte is shown prominently at the front of the ID.
“Ung mukha ng owner black and white, ung mukha ni PRRD colored, Ung mukha ng owner maliit Ung mukha ni PRRD mas malaki,” said one OFW who received the said ID card.
“Ayaw ng pangulo ng ganyan epal style ok na ung kamaong du30,” another commenter said.
To respond to the confusion of the public, the Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. released a statement. According to him, the president is not aware that his photo will be used in the OFW ID.
“Hindi ba pati ang mga pictures niya sa mga [government] offices pinapalitan niya ng mga heroes? I don’t think he knew about this,” says Roque.
The distribution of OFW ID started just last week. According to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello, the implementation is still on its first phase and will only cater those OFWs who are just vacationing in the Philippines. The restrictions will somehow get lifter “until the system is ready for all OFWs.”
OFWs vacationing in the Philippines can get their OFW ID by logging in their respective BM Online accounts. They can use this card to avail exemptions for terminal fees and travel tax.
