No more OEC for OFW or OFW Balik Manggagawa Certificate
The Balik Mangagawa Certificate or most commonly known as OEC, has been the official portal paper that Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) used in order for them to be allowed to pass through immigration for how many years now. And now, after the long wait of the new Filipino heroes, the OEC has been replaced and something better is now within their reach.
Secretary Belo of The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has officially affirmed that the OEC is not anymore a requirement for OFWs in order for them to be allowed through immigration. The affirmation happened during a talk with Mocha Uson. Secretary Belo mentioned that the abolishment of the OEC is for the reason that President Duterte has already given his approval regarding the issuance of the I-DOLE, or OFW ID. The production of these FREE OFW IDs will begin from August to September by DOLE, or if possible, at least two or three months from May.
The said OFW ID can be used various purposes as a transaction documents for things such as Social Security System (SSS), Philheath and Pag-Ibig members. And current researches and studies are ongoing regarding the idea that the OFW ID could then possibly be used as an electronic passport.
Announced by Secretary Belo and effective May 15, 2017, the suspension regarding direct hire has been lifted.
The plan about this OFW ID sprouted early February of this year, after a couple of weeks the implementation of the plan was then announced. As stated by President Duterte, he has approved the creation and use of the OFW ID.
Additional information: You can use your OFW ID or I-DOLE as an ATM/Debit CARD in OFW banks; as a beep card for MRT/LRT; and also for government agencies stated above (SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-Ibig)
