There’s a huge possibility that the Filipina dental assistant who got jailed after bringing illegal drugs to Saudi Arabia will be out of prison.
Based on the report, Junivie San Juan from Bicol, already served her sentence that was given to her by the high court.
However, she still needs to pay the fine amounting to 100,000 SARs or approximately P1.3 million, so she can finally return to the Philippines.
Through the help of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Junivie’s parents Elvira and Jun were able to visit her for the first time.
October 9, 2013, Junivie was arrested by Saudi police, just days after she departed from Manila, Philippines.
Junivie insisted that she have no knowledge about the illegal drugs in her luggage.
In her court statement, she became a victim of the syndicate that operated in the Philippines and Saudi Arabia.
Still according to the woman, the baggage was given to her by the representative of her agency in the airport just when she was about to board the plane, leaving her with no time to check the content of the baggage.
Thankfully, DFA, OWWA and DOLE were able to help the parents of Junivie in getting a compassionate visa so they can visit them in Saudi Arabia.
