A Filipina domestic worker won first place in photo contest conducted by National Geographic.
Joan Pabona, 35, who has been working in HK for five years was announced first runner-up in the People and Happenings in Hong Kong section.
Her black-and-white photo titled “Sacrifice” shows a worker wearing helmet arranging a safety nets used for bamboo scaffolding.
Pabona said she took the picture from the eighth floor of the building in Happy Valley.
“Sa eighth floor sa bahay ng amo ko, natanaw ko iyon habang naglilinis ako,”says Pabona.
Joan hails from Ilocos Sur and has been taking photographs while studying in the Philippines. When she moved to Hongkong she pursued her interest and joined workshops conducted by the social enterprise Lensational.
“Hongkong(is like) a playground and a second home, I’m always interested(in) people surrounding me,” she said.
